How Photography Affects Memory by Stephany Poce We take more photos now than ever. However, do we still value them like we did in the past? As a photographer, I take countless photos every day. I take them with professional cameras, different lenses, and with smart phone cameras. I’m always trying to get the right angle, feeling, shade, aperture, focus, and lighting. It takes patience to get it right. Some people prefer completely candid shots but I’m not one of those. Beginner Mistakes First, avoid the beginner mistakes that nearly everyone makes when they pick up a video camera . The worst ofender is the constant zooming and panning that pervades every shot. Before you reach for that zoom control, think about why you're doing it. Do you really need to get a closer look at your subject? Or are you just playing around with that zoom because you can? If you can't think of a really good reason to zoom or pan, don't. Keep in mind, some directors like Spielberg and Hitchcock have shot entire feature films without zooming one single time. Instead of zooming, consider stopping tape and moving in closer to your subject. Then, you can edit it later. If you must pan (moving from side-to-side, moving up or down is called a "tilt"), move slower than your instincts tell you to. Almost every beginner video has a pan that is so fast that it elicits laughter among the initiated. And, by the way, don't call what you're doing with that...

Working as a part-time nanny. I really enjoy caring for the two children Max and Jenny. They are adorable and energetic young toddlers. They love playing hide and seek and video games. Jenny is 3 and Max is 4. One of their favorite activities that they enjoy is building sand castles at the beach.  Mostly they just take the buckets and create little towers with them. Another activity they both love is the slides at the playgrounds and of course, the swings. I'm fortunate to love my job which allows me the flexibility of continuing my photography studies. Photography Tips by Stephany Poce A gray card is usually used to get the right amount of exposure in a shot. Sometimes when you are shooting in bad light situations like dark objects or snow the exposure meters on cameras have a difficult time figuring out what the right exposure is so the snow ends up appearing more gray or a black object looks more gray also. The gray card can help remedy this. When you take a photograph of a gray card the middle of the scale will be higher. On many cameras this raise is usually 1/3 a stop under exposed. That's why many of the professional photographers use light meters instead of cards because the cards have different levels of reflection. When I want a warmer feeling I use the gray card for white balancing and the white side for a slightly cooler feel. Today was a great day because I think I aced my important exams. University is difficult at best and I don't like most of my classes unless they deal in photography or design. The sky is the limit when you combine technology with photography and I get excited just thinking about what I can do. I am currently shooting on a Canon, my favorite brand. I love Canon.
